Decadence

I find comfort in clay. Working with my hands has become a cathartic process for me, acting as a positive outlet for my anxiety. Living with constant internal conflict while maintaining a stable façade is exhausting and at times unmanageable. Decadence explores the beauty and significance of fungus in aiding with decomposition. The blooming fruit of fungi is a product of its ability to breakdown and consume the nutrients and energy from dead or decaying organic matter. This naturally occurring process is used as a metaphor for mental health and the toll it takes on the body. Each vessel is an autobiographical rendering of my personal discourse with mental health, illustrating moments of hardship, perseverance and growth.

Sculptural Pottery

This body of work is inspired by naturalistic elements of Art Nouveau. I wanted to push the form by adding sculptural elements to my functional work. Instead of the form as is after throwing it on the wheel, I altered the clay off the wheel by using additive and subtractive methods to achieve different textures.

Functional Pottery

My functional ceramic work is created with the experience of its use in mind. I take great pleasure in thinking through the intentions of the objects I make on the wheel. By making sure that each and every bowl, cup, plate, ect. is created with close attention to detail. These wares not only look great, but also feel great to use.
